Creating icons

Use these guidelines when creating new iconography for BT Group.

Basic shapes

Our icons should all feel like they have a basic, obvious shape. This helps keep them as simple as possible and helps with a consistent style.

The grid

Our icons are created 32px x 32px grid.

Creating them at 32px help us keep icons legible at smaller sizes.

Snap

Icons must snap to the grid. This helps keep them uniform and improves anti-ailiasing.

Padding

The grid contains 2px padding, ensuring our icons will retain their desired scale and surrounding white space when exported.

Please don’t extend the icon into this padding.

Line weight

Our icons use a 2px stroke, this keeps them consistent across the entire icon set, especially as it grows over time.

Angles

Use 45° angles for even anti- aliasing.

If 45° doesn’t work use increments of 15° to help keep the consistency across our icon set.

Colours

When creating the full colour version of our icons you should only use brand colours that have enough contrast on white: BT Indigo, EE Aqua, Plusnet Maroon and Plusnet Red.

Approvals and formats

Any icons that are created need to be signed off and approved by the brand team, just email us for that.
